Ronny Buurink was born December 3rd, 1965 in Enschede. His musical interests were visible from a very young age, and this was stimulated by his family.

Ronny's musical heart lies with his clarinet, an instrument which he can still be found playing in the concert division wind band Wilhelmina Glanerbrug. At age nineteen he got into the Conservatory in Enschede, where he studied classical music and the clarinet. A year later he picked up the conductor's baton, learning under Jan van Ossenbruggen, Gerrit Buitenhuis and Harry Janssen. He returned back to his clarinet after a small break, taking to the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, under Piet Honingh, solo clarinettist at the Royal Concert building Orchestra. He finished this first phase of his HaFaBra conducting studies in 1994, however he'd already gained quite a bit of conducting experience before this. A few years later in 2001, he continued his studies at the Messiaen Academy in Enschede, where he finished the second phase of HaFaBra conducting in 2004, under Hennie Ramaekers supervision.

Ronny has been directing SHOT since 1993, which means he has been with this band for over thirty years. In this time he's led many concerts, made trips to many other countries and seen many fantastic results at various festivals and competitions. He can also be found conducting the Euregio Brassband, which is based in Borne.
